Gandhi Study Circle

 Gandhi Study Circle: Endeavours and Accomplishments

Gandhi study circle aims to promote and generate interest in the youth about Mahatma Gandhi and is an extension of Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University. In this regard, various activities are conducted every year which are coordinated by Gandhi Bhawan. 

     Keeping the tradition alive, Gandhi Study Circle diligently commemorated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation on 2nd October 2020. Our dynamic Principal, Prof. Nirmal Jindal and determined Convener, Mr. Lajpat Rai, were acknowledged and awarded by the Vice-Chancellor for their contribution in advancing Gandhian Philosophy. 

     Gandhi Study Circle held an enlightening lecture in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, Satyawati College on ‘Gandhi’s Political Ideas: An Overview’ by Prof. Subrata Mukherjee, Former Head, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi. Prof. Nirmal Jindal chaired the lecture. I express my gratitude to Dr. Swadesh Singh, Teacher-in-charge, Department of Political Science for hosting an enriching session. 

     Furthermore, Gandhi Study Circle also took part in Geeta Jayanti Mahotsava, organised by Gandhi Bhawan, the University of Delhi on 22nd December 2020. Prof. P.C. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi graced the occasion with his kind presence. Gandhi Study Circle also participated in the Makar Sankranti celebrations organised by Gandhi Bhawan, the University of Delhi on 14th January 2021. 

     Gandhi Study Circle actively engaged in a one-week faculty development programme jointly organised by Gandhi Bhawan, the University of Delhi and Mahatma Hansraj Faculty Development Centre, a centre of MOE, Government of India, under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching. Mr. Lajpat Rai, Convenor, Gandhi Study Circle actively participated as a member, organising committee. 

     Martyrs Day event was attended in tandem with the 74th Death Anniversary of the Father of the Nation. Notably, Prof. P.C. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi and Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar, University of Delhi also paid their homage to Mahatma Gandhi. 

     Our students enthusiastically took part in a quiz titled ‘Taking Gandhi Heritage to Students’ organised by the National Gandhi Museum with the support of the National Backward Class Finance and Development Corporation. Gandhi Study Circle was at the forefront in Yoga Day organised by Gandhi Bhawan on 21st June 2021and also joined   Prarthana Sabha organised by Gandhi Bhawan on 4th August. 

     Mr. Lajpat Rai, Convener, Gandhi Study Circle was a jury member in Bhashan Pratiyogita organised by Gandhi Bhawan on 24th August. Gandhi Study Circle participated in Acharya Kakasahab Kalelkar memorial lecture, jointly organised by Gandhi Bhawan and Hindustani Sahitya Sabha on New Education Policy 2020 on 21st August. 

     Gandhi Study Circle envisioned and conducted a lecture on 'Gandhi and New Education Policy’. Prof. Ramesh C. Bharadwaj, Director Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi delivered the lecture on 4th August. A National Seminar on ‘Remembering Gandhi’ was organised on 10th August. Prof. Gajendra Singh, Department of African Studies, University of Delhi, Dr. Naved Jamal, Associate Professor, Jamia-Millia-Islamia and Dr. Geeta Sahare, University of Delhi were the main speakers. Prof. Nirmal Jindal, Principal Satyawati College chaired the seminar. 

     Gandhi Study Circle held a webinar on ‘Revisiting Gandhi on Independence Day’ on 15th August. Prof. Anand Kumar, President, Society for Communal Harmony, was the speaker and Prof. Ramesh C. Bharadwaj, Director, Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi chaired the webinar.
